Obtaining a visa to live in the United States legally is the dream of many people. Many Brazilians want to try a better life in the land of the famous “Uncle Sam” and at these times, information is everything.

K-1 fiancee visa

A fiancee visa is the visa for a fiancée of an American citizen, so that he or she can travel to the United States for the purpose of getting married and living in the country. K2 visas are for children under the age of 21. Fiancé visas are different from other non-immigrant visas, such as tourist or business visas. While nonimmigrant visa applicants must demonstrate strong ties to Brazil and an intention to return after a temporary visit to the United States, US immigration law assumes that fiance visa applicants intend to to immigrate.

H4 visa

The H4 visa is intended to give permission to family members of foreigners who have a temporary work visa, type “H1B”, so that they can live in the US as dependents of the relative who comes here to work. However, those who receive the H4 visa are not authorized to carry out remunerated activities in North American territory. The H4 is purely and simply a dependent tracking authorization.

U visa – For victims of violence

The U visa is only granted to people who collaborate with police investigations and during legal, often criminal, processes. Another very important point is that the victim collects, has evidence, evidence that he was threatened with life or received disturbing and/or harassing messages. Therefore, if the victim has received texts or messages in applications with threatening or accusatory content, it is advisable not to delete any of these messages. The ideal is to take pictures if possible, as they are evidence that will help you in the process.

J-1 visa

The J-1 visa is for those who have been accepted to participate in exchange programs in the United States in accordance with US immigration law. This means that before you can apply for a J visa at the US Embassy in Brazil or at one of the US Consulates, you must first be accepted into an exchange program category, through a sponsoring organization registered with the government. North American. If you are accepted as a participant in an exchange program, this sponsor will inform you of the procedures and documents required to apply for a J-1 visa.

Green Card after marriage

Contrary to what many people think, marrying a US citizen does not automatically guarantee a Green Card (GC). There are a series of documents, medical examinations and interviews that will be done until the government decides whether to grant you the GC or not, and this varies from case to case.

Green Card through work visa

For the employer to apply for your green card, you need to prove that there are no other US employees with the same qualification as you. This is not a difficult task, especially in computer, engineering and medical science fields; areas in which a large number of Brazilians obtain a green card.

How to get US citizenship

To become naturalized, the candidate must have a GREEN CARD (permanent resident card); be over 18 (eighteen) years of age; know how to read, write and speak English; have knowledge of US history; have no criminal record; have good moral conduct and also meet one of the criteria listed below:

Be a resident for five years, have not been out of the country for more than 6 (six) months and have stayed in the US for at least 30 (thirty) months. Have been married to a US citizen for 3 (three) years and not have been out of the country for more than 6 (six) months and have been in the US for at least 18 months. Have served in the military for at least one year. Has been married to an American citizen who died in service to the Fatherland, regardless of the length of the marriage.
